I am just pondering whether to bring a show to Buxton next year...could someone possibly tell me where the £60 entry fee goes towards? I could do with a detailed breakdown...

Thank you...

Hi, Buxton Festival Fringe is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers with the exception of the desk manager whom we pay for three weeks around Festival time.
In round figures our annual costs are £11k which would mean an entry fee of £100 if it were not for generous sponsors and particularly the Friends of the Fringe. As you may be aware this year the local council (High Peak Borough) cut all our grant without warning having supported us steadily for 20 years. This left us with a shortfall of £2k two months before the star of the Fringe. We replaced this money with one off grants and donations for this year. For next year we will have to find further replacement funding and the entry fee may have to go up.
It is core to our beliefs that entry should be available to all so we will do everything we can to avoid this.
As for where the money goes: about £8k goes on design, print and distribution of the programme and the rest on ancilliary publicity materials and general office expenses.
We file accounts with the Charities Commission and I believe they are available on their website.
I hope this helps you decide whether to bring a show here next year. For comparison entry to Edinburgh costs £312 I'm told.

hmmm ok? £8000 on a design and print and publication? Where does the brochure get given way? Locally, nationally? does any go into publicity, adverts in newspapers etc?

Curious -
The Fringe entry fee is one of the best deals available. The brochure is available everywhere and seen in the hands of hundreds, if not thousands of potential audience members. This is a Fringe Festival, and one of the best run I have experienced. You won't lose money on the fee, so join in the fun!
