Best in Stand Up at Buxton Fringe

Stand-up comedy is particularly strong at this year's Buxton Festival Fringe (July 8-24), and it is not all coming from the men.

Watch out for Mrs Barbara Nice, a superb character act from Janice Connolly, familiar from TV's Phoenix Nights and Dead Man Weds. She will be appearing as part of three special nights of comedy from the popular Buxton Buzz Comedy Club.

There is more female comic talent from Four Blondes and a Blackhead, five stand-up comedians on the national circuit warming up for their Edinburgh run.

The quality of the Fringe's comedy this year could hardly be bettered with Mediamedea performing their comedy drama Moving Pictures starring the award-winning Denice Hope, and the prize-winning Rec Theatre Company reprising its acclaimed Romeo and Juliet - Deceased (The Musical) in a double bill with Tom Stoppard's The 15-Minute Hamlet.

This is a very special year for the award-winning local group Three's Company. With the three young actors at its core moving onwards and upwards (to Rada in the case of Michael Grady), this will be their last season in Buxton. Book early for Plane of Existence, the all-singing, all-dancing finale to their sell-out Transport Trilogy.
