ROOMS WITH A VIEW AT BUXTON FESTIVAL FRINGE

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release May/June 2006

It is easy to pack your day with performances during the exciting 17-day arts extravaganza that is Buxton Festival Fringe (July 7-23), but dont forget to take time out to see some of our stimulating exhibitions.

An exciting new feature for Fringe 2006 is the extensive programme of events at the Bookstore, Brierlow Bar, just outside Buxton. Check out Fran Halsalls Staffordshire Moorlands photographs there or book your place at Wild Britain, an eagerly anticipated talk with visuals by award-winning landscape photographer, Geoff Simpson.

For some years now, a key venue for the Fringe has been the Buxton Museum and Art Gallery, this year offering the traditional Derbyshire Open 2006 an eagerly anticipated annual event showcasing work by professional and amateur artists of all ages plus Wildest Dreams (beautiful Pennine paintings by Jeff Beaumont) and Grizzly Tales (engaging, fairy-tale inspired sculptures by Paul Smith).

High Peak Artists and Craft Workers Association won a Fringe Award last year for their large display of art by different artists and particularly for their exciting daily demonstrations. The successful format returns this year with a welcome, free childrens drop-in workshop on July 22.

If exhibitions make you tired and hungry, never fear. Why not refresh yourself at the trendy Buxton café, Project X, which is displaying an atmospheric collection of Latin images by French artist and Fringe designer, Armelle Perrin? The ever-expanding Annual Exhibition by Burbage Art Group is free and provides complementary tea, coffee and cakes (as well as a life-saving childrens quiz!). Or you could have a meal at La Terrazza with Sue Mortins Terrazza Angels guarding over you!

Down in the all-new Fringe Club, otherwise known as the Orchestra Pit in the Old Hall Hotel, you can see Pixelated, a live and changing photo exhibition reflecting the diversity of performances on the Fringe, a welcome new enterprise from Redpoint Studio Partners.

We are also very proud of our one and only Film entry. The Paupers Pit in the Old Hall Hotel continues its valuable cinema screenings with Mini Movie Monday, a collection of short films on each Monday of the Fringe.

Remember the Fringe is open to all; if you are interested in taking part next year, please Send message to Info
