Feed the imagination at Buxton Festival Fringe

Press Release for immediate release May/June 2007

Drama, music and comedy may be the largest categories at the Fringe but there are also gems to be discovered within the Fringe's many other sections including Street Theatre, Spoken Word and the catch all Other Events.

This year's Fringe is exceptionally rich in poetry with highlights including Fringe regular F Philip Holland, Writers' Reign at the University of Derby, Buxton, poems on the theme of painting from The Poetry Trio and a solo recital from award-winning poetry performer Wyn Hobson. There is also a convivial evening to be enjoyed at the Packhorse Inn, Crowdecote with the Packhorse Poets and distinguished guest poets Cynthia Fuller and Roy Fisher. And if all that leaves you feeling creative, be sure to pen some verse on Nice Venue's Poetry Wall - the best poems will be performed at a Poetry Slam on the last Saturday of the Fringe.

The literary theme continues with free Fringe Readings from local actors at the Old Hall Hotel and, at the same hotel, the launch of Dilys Gater's biography of Vivien Leigh complete with wine and refreshments. Buxton Drama League are also back with their open-air Shakespeare Jukebox - you choose which speeches are performed!

Some of the Fringe's most exciting events end up in Other Events. It is fantastic to see the return of close-up magic on the Fringe with a show from Manchester Circle of Magicians - book early as they usually sell out. Fringe regular, Johnny Dagger - the longest running performer on the Fringe - is back with his atmospheric King Sterndale Slides with Music, as is another Fringe institution Jennie Ainsworth offering her popular Vera Brittain guided walks.

New for 2007 is St Anne's first flower festival and the intriguing One-Minute Theatre Festival at Underground Venues, billed as 'England's smallest ever festival in England's smallest theatre!'

Sometimes the best things in life are free. Enjoy free sneak previews of acts at Underground Events' Fringe Launch Party or at Fringe Sunday (July 8) at Pavilion Gardens. If you are a performer or a Friend of the Fringe, please join us at the prestigious Fringe Awards Ceremony at the University of Derby, Buxton on July 22.
