Whole Lotta Shakin Going On At Buxton's Fringe Sunday

Look at for Elvis at Fringe Sunday Press release: June 26 2010

Stand by for a visit from the King himself at Buxton Festival Fringe's action-packed Fringe Sunday on July 11.

The free, outdoor event, which takes place around the Bandstand at the Pavilion Gardens from 2-4.30pm, will feature 15 different acts and performers from the Fringe with the Bandstand finale set to include a visit from Elvis, who has told organisers he is praying for dry weather lest his white suit is spoiled.

Also on the Bandstand will be fanfares, Bach and the Beatles from the Jager Brass Quintet - a group of musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music - plus extracts from a new musical about the Eyam plague with a 17-strong cast.

Performing on the promenade space in front of the conservatory will be the Tideswell Male Voice Choir and award-winning young magicians and jugglers High Jinks Magic. There will also be high-energy comedy from Carrot Napper productions previewing their show to take place at the Poole's Cavern Marquee.

On the dance and movement front, the ever-popular Belly Dance Flames are performing along with Spiral who are bringing a new piece called 'Arrivals'.

Other acts to watch out for include the Landau Forte Youth Theatre, who promise entertaining physical music theatre, and Milk Theatre showing extracts from 454 Grams - "a romp through Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice". Hayden Cohen - a cross between Woody Allen and Elvis Costello (not the other Elvis) - will also be singing and playing.

The event is always child-friendly and this year there will be a new Children's Tent - with face painting and free lucky dips - plus an arts and crafts table previewing the Great Dome Art & Craft exhibition. Finally, the full-size static train known as Hendrick's Horseless Carriage of Curiosities is on site for story-telling and, yes, curiosities.
