Early entry recommended for the Buxton Fringe

Press Release: 14 February 2011

Summer may seem a long way off but, the Buxton Festival Fringe is encouraging potential actors, musicians, comedians and exhibitors to think ahead to July by booking their venue and signing up for this year's event.

Although there is plenty of time left to enter, the early booking period, with entry only costing £45, runs out on 28 February. After that, from 1 to 31 March the entry fee is £65 and from 1 to 24 April it is £80.

Chair Stephanie Billen comments: 'We have already had more entries so far than we did at the same stage last year - including the return of the popular Military Tattoo - so I'm imagining there is going to be some fierce competition for venues. By entering now, you ensure you have the best possible choice plus you get early publicity as each new entry immediately goes up on the website, http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk.'

The website also features lots of help for entrants including an ever-growing venues list. As Stephanie adds: 'Things change all the time so it is always a good idea to keep an eye on that list. For example this year Underground Venues have announced that they will be programming the brand new Pavilion Arts Centre's Studio theatre as well as its normal venues under the Old Hall Hotel.'

Entrants wishing to perform with the managed venue Underground Venues, should remember that they will need to work to their earlier deadlines as detailed on their website http://undergroundvenues.co.uk/.

The Fringe is grateful to all its venues around the town including the spectacular Dome, home of the Fringe's main sponsor, The University of Derby Buxton, and the location for the Fringe award ceremony. 'We are also building up an interesting collection of venues outside Buxton to help us bring the Fringe to even more people', adds Stephanie.

This year's Fringe runs from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 24 July.
