Buxton's Friendly Fringe is Ready to Go

Press Release : 08 June 2013

One of Britain's biggest and most friendly Fringes, Buxton Festival Fringe (July 3-21), has launched its 2013 programme. With some 170 events, the Fringe sponsored by the University of Derby Buxton, is as big as ever and looks forward to inviting artists and audiences alike to the beautiful spa town of Buxton.

"Our reputation as the Friendly Fringe sees established perfomers returning and great new acts trying out new things" said Fringe Chair, Stephanie Billen. "It's great to see the strength and diversity of the Buxton Festival Fringe with performers from Africa, Brazil and Europe as well as locals such as the Litton Poetry Festival featuring poet John Hegley. You can get a taster of what's on offer at our free event Fringe Sunday in the Pavilion Gardens on the afternoon of July 7"

This year's Fringe sees a strong Theatre entry as usual, with a couple of Shakespearean highlights; last year's Theatre award winners Smooth Faced Gentlemen return with an all-female Titus Andronicus, while Butterfly's Hamlet is in the atmospheric Poole's Cavern. In Comedy, previous winners Max and Ivan and Helen Arney appear alongside Morgan and West, Danny Pensive, and Daliso Chaponda.

Nick Ward and NCO principals take a break from their appearance on the Buxton Festival to join the Fringe playing Mozart and Saint-Saens. Indeed there is music of every description, from classical to pop, with some show tunes and folk along the way.

This year the Fringe is highlighting the many free events on offer, and for the first time they have been grouped together on the Fringe website http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk. There you can find many Visual Arts events, including workshops, Street Theatre, and a Food and Drink Festival.

And if that isn't enough, there is Dance, Film and a number of lively events for Families. Tickets are also already selling well for the Buxton Military Tattoo.

The 2013 line-up can also be found on the website at:

The Fringe can also be found on Facebook, Twitter (@BuxtonFringe) and the Buxton Fringe blog, accessible from the Fringe website.

The Fringe is hugely grateful to its sponsor the University plus supporters including The Osborne Group, High Peak Borough Council, The Old Hall Hotel and The Cavendish Shopping Arcade.

Running alongside the Fringe is the acclaimed Buxton Festival, a celebration of opera, music and literature from the 5th to the 21st July. Visit http://www.buxtonfestival.co.uk.
