March Entry Deadline due for Buxton Fringe

PRESS RELEASE 17th March 2014 - for immediate release

Buxton Festival Fringe is preparing for another rich summer of entertainment with over 70 entries already signed up for 2014 in all categories of the Fringe programme including Theatre, Visual Arts, Music and Comedy.

Among the exciting events lined up for this year are everything from Butterfly's Dracula's Women Underground at Poole's Cavern to a chance to meet Oscar Wilde in his prison cell courtesy of Olivier-nominated actor Gerard Logan. Comic highlights include Radio 4's Maxine Jones and magic duo Morgan & West and an expanding Visual Arts section features Fringe favourites such as the Great Dome Art Fair as well as cheeky newcomers Dr Sketchy Sheffield with a life-drawing workshop boasting semi-naked burlesque performers! As ever, events for all the family are marked with a smiley face and there are several events specifically for children including Alice's Adventures in Wonderland at the Pavilion Arts Centre.

Fringe chair Keith Savage comments: 'With over 70 entries by mid-March, Buxton Festival Fringe 2014 is looking very exciting. We are pleased to be welcoming back many friends. Partita - the Early Music ensemble from Manchester - will be marking 20 years in Buxton. Their playing and singing is of the highest standard and they always unearth some new pieces to charm us with. Last year an a cappella group from Soweto thrilled not only Buxton audiences but crowds all over England. We are delighted that Soweto Entsha will be singing for four nights in St John's Church. On the international front we'll also be happy to welcome back Bern Budd from Massachusetts, USA with his witty telling of Mark Twain's Adam and Eve diaries.' Details of all shows including a host of free events are published on the Fringe website as they come in.

There is still plenty of time for performers who would like to appear at this year's Fringe to enter. There are two more deadlines: for performers who enter before 31 March, the Fringe fee is £65. The strict and final deadline for inclusion in the printed programme, published in early June, is April 20, with April entries charged at the full cost of £80. Details of how to choose your venue, enter and pay online are published on the Fringe website. For further information go to http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk/entrants.html or telephone 01298 70705.

Keith adds: 'You can also enjoy regular Fringe communications, events and offers throughout the year by becoming a Fringe Friend - full details on the website.'

The Fringe is grateful to all its venues around the town including the spectacular Dome, home of the Fringe's sponsor and close partner, The University of Derby Buxton.
