FAMILY FUN AT THE FRINGE

The Fringe this year is all about family fun. Whether you are avid family Fringe followers, or just want to experience something new with your family, the Fringe has something for everyone.

Throughout the week there is fantastic family theatre and story telling with Box Tale Soup presenting its adaptation of The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland and the REC Youth Theatre presenting Around the World in Eighty Days. Anna Beecher also tells the story of Hans My Hedgehog about a boy born covered in hedgehog quills, whilst Dreamshed Theatre presents, The Theo The Mouse Show written by Basil Brush writer Wink Taylor.

If comedy is more to your family’s taste, Comedy Sportz UK can offer great family-friendly improvisation. In this fast-paced, witty show, the comedy troupe splits into two teams that battle each other, whilst the audience votes on who is funniest.

For any budding poets, Mark Gwynne Jones, five times Fringe award winner, presents Word Worms. During this family show of wild imaginings, the audience are introduced to a boy with an eye on his index finger and have the chance to make friends with a giant toad. Described as “funny, fast and thoughtful,” it is one not to be missed.

Lastly, for those who want to create their own characters and stories, there is Tiny! Wilderness. This free event, invites children and adults to step into a tiny magical world, helped by artists from Stone and Water.

Stephanie Billen, Fringe Marketing manager says: “Family Fringe is a great way to get your family excited about the arts, and who knows you might find some surprises too. Look out too for the smiley face symbol in the programme indicating events in other sections that the performers feel would be suitable for families. We also hope to see lots of young people at Fringe Sunday on July 13 and waving on our float during the carnival the day before.”
