Music for every taste at Buxton Fringe!

PRESS RELEASE for immediate release June 2nd 2022

There can be no doubt as to the huge range of music on offer across every style at Buxton Fringe. The 17-piece High Peak Big Band presents everything from Broadway hits to modern jazz compositions in its show Big Band Takes the Stage at the Conservative Club. There are more good times to be had as singer songwriter Darren Poyzer takes his internet hit Sunday Service to a live audience, The Good Ole Boys and Susie and the Bad Habits perform outside at Serpentine Community Garden and RedWillow hosts a homage to TV theme tunes: A Tellyful of Songs from Fred Up.

The venues are as diverse as the music on offer with singer-guitarist duo Zerene choosing High Peak Bookstore and Cafe for their first appearance at the Fringe presenting indie, pop, alternative, grunge and folk music, while ARKangel takes to Buxton’s historic Pump Room for its intimate and dramatic story of tango, Milonga del Angel, featuring violin, guitar, voice and spoken word.

Jazz is well represented at the Fringe with performances at the Green Man Gallery including Basin Street Jazz and Blues with Put a Lid On It and Trio Siabod offering Shapely Jazz.

For sheer relaxation, Cheshire composer and pianist Adrian Lord returns with Soul Repair, featuring his original, calming piano music making the most of Buxton Methodist Church’s excellent acoustics. Trinity Church meanwhile sees the return of the Manchester Recorder Orchestra with MRO 21. The remarkable 40-piece recorder orchestra is celebrating its 21st visit to Buxton Fringe and promising a wide range of music including folk, jazz and contemporary compositions.

Music is one of the Fringe’s largest categories featuring choirs, guitarists, ensembles and more. For further information see www.buxtonfringe.org.uk or download the free Buxton Fringe App. Fringe events in other categories, such as Fringe@5 and Fringe Sunday in the Pavilion Gardens, will also include music creating a wealth of opportunities for music-lovers. Fringe Marketing Officer Stephanie Billen says: “Together with Buxton International Festival, the Fringe is making sure the hills are alive with music this July and there is an astonishing variety of every type of music to enjoy.”

The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
