Small is beautiful at Buxton Fringe

PRESS RELEASE for immediate release June 2nd 2022

Some of the smallest categories at Buxton Fringe offer must-see entertainment.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Morris hosts its traditional Buxton Day of Dance on July 16th with over 150 dancers and musicians from 16 different Morris sides. A very different type of dance is offered by Regency ReJigged as they demonstrate dance sets from Jane Austen’s time in the delightful setting of the Pavilion Gardens. They are also likely to appear as part of Fringe Sunday featuring a diverse programme of music, singing, comedy, dance and more on and around the Bandstand.

Buxton Film is offering a special screening of U-Carmen Ekhayelitsha. Filmed in a modern South African township setting it combines music from Bizet’s opera with traditional African music. Michael Williams, CEO of Buxton International Festival will be introducing it.

Street Theatre finds us in familiar but delightful territory as Buxton Drama League presents its ever popular Shakespeare Jukebox on multiple occasions during the Fringe. It is worth remembering that there is plenty more outdoor entertainment at the Fringe including Fringe@5 at the bandstand in the Pavilion Gardens and informal Fringe busking outside the Fringe Information Desk in the Pavilion Gardens. Meanwhile the whole town comes alive for Carnival day on July 9th and the Fringe will be combining forces with Buxton International Festival to create a spectacular float on the theme of Still Smiling.

The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
