Notes to self - Comedians tell all at Buxton Fringe

PRESS RELEASE for immediate release June 2nd 2022

Some of the funniest performers at Buxton Fringe offer a revealing glimpse into their own lives.

Jonathan Winfield mines comedy from family trauma, mental illness and depression with the help of therapy puppets and silly dancing. Zoe Bury offloads about her obsession with being 'normal', and how she is starting to realise there is no such thing. Will Preston explores his love of gaming and geek culture as he escapes from his normal life in Will Preston Can’t Face Reality.

Physical comedian Luke Rollason presents a psychedelic domestic breakdown in his new show Bowerbird which he says he is finally ready to give away to a good home. South East New Comedian finalist Phil Green talks Nineties' nostalgia and neurodiversity and Aidan Goatley displays his Tenacious spirit as he recalls the setbacks of his life including the most horrific gig in the world.

There is more nostalgia as Juliet Meyers relives a trip to India, unleashing smug sex therapists and furious monkeys. Meanwhile Henry Churniavsky remembers growing up with an 88 year-old Jewish mother while Louise Atkinson tells us about her mates – the good, the bad and the ugly.

There is a scientific twist to Robyn Perkins’s highly personal show Million Dollar Maybe in which she explores confidence, misinformation and bi-visibility. Dr Helen steps Outside the Laboat as she invites audiences to share in the delights of job hunting, dating and national security and comedian and junior doctor Michael Akadiri explores the challenges of life inside and outside the NHS in his revealing show.

Fringe Marketing Officer Stephanie Billen says: “The past few years have made everyone feel vulnerable but laughter is definitely the best medicine and Buxton Fringe has a host of performers dedicated to making us feel better.”

There is plenty more comedy on offer at Buxton Fringe. Just pick up a programme, see www.buxtonfringe.org.uk or download the free Buxton Fringe App.

The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
