OPEN SHORTS - Buxton Film

There was an eclectic mixture of films on offer at the Buxton Shorts festival. Having watched fascinating archived footage from the BFI of Buxton in the early 1900s, we were treated to a series of locally made short films. This year’s films had a range of topics and styles on offer; a monochrome rant on the state of modern politics and living, a fast-paced crime film, a stylistic piece of interpretive dance, and a family-made short taken in one long-shot. We were also treated to some shorts from previous competitions, including one that went on to win the BAFTA for Best Short Film.

The evening was compèred by a representative from Buxton Film, who knowledgeably introduced each entry, if with a little too much detail at times, and ensured the event went smoothly. The efforts of all the filmmakers and participants ought to be congratulated for their films, and for contributing towards an excellent evening.
