Ted Hughes is primarily associated with the moorland landscapes of the Upper Calder Valley around his natal Mytholmroyd. However, the place that formed Hughes as a poet was the industrial South Yorkshire around Mexborough, where he lived from the ages of eight to 21. Steve Ely reveals this still too little-known story.
