BUXTON FESTIVAL FRINGE MAKES NEW FRIENDS

PRESS RELEASE For immediate release November 18th 2005

Buxton Festival Fringe has made a host of new Friends following a special reception at the University of Derby College, Buxton's fabulous, refurbished dome.

More than thirty new people signed up to become Friends of the Fringe, showing their support for the charity by submitting ten pounds for the year. The Friends will receive a ten per cent discount off tickets at the Fringe and will be among the first to receive a copy of the 2006 Fringe programme when it comes out next June.

The Buxton Festival Fringe is a registered charity and runs alongside the official, opera-based Festival each July offering an exciting array of drama, music, exhibitions, dance and much more. The Fringe does not select or censor but is open to all. At the well-supported reception on Monday November 14, chair of the Fringe John Wilson was able to explain exactly how the Fringe works showing a series of slides to demonstrate the crucial work of volunteers in putting together the programme, maintaining the website (www.buxtonfringe.org.uk) and liaising with performers and Fringe-goers alike.

Although the Fringe receives important sponsorship from donors including the University of Derby College, Buxton and High Peak Borough Council, it is always in need of funds and the financial contribution of the Friends provides an important boost. The Friends are also being encouraged to become involved in other ways such as distributing programmes or writing reviews of shows. "You can choose to become Friends, best friends or lovers!", they were told at the reception. There are plans afoot to hold a meeting of the Friends so that they can create their own committee to organise social events.

The informal evening which included wine and music was also an opportunity for the Fringe to say farewell to Opera House director, Andrew Aughton, whom John Wilson said would be missed as a huge supporter of the Fringe, as an asset to the town and most of all "as a good friend".

If anyone missed the reception but would still like to become a Friend of the Fringe, please contact Friends organiser Peter Low at Send message to Friends or on 01298 25104.
