BUXTON FESTIVAL FRINGE OPEN FOR ENTRIES JAN 9TH

Buxton Festival Fringe is urging would be participants not to miss their chance to become part of one of England's most prestigious Fringe Festivals featuring a heady mix of drama, music, exhibitions and much more.

"We don't censor, we don't select and we welcome the unusual. Last year we had a brilliant response and we are hoping for an even bigger, more diverse Fringe for 2006", says Fringe chair, John Wilson. "Buxton is a historic spa town set in the heart of the Peak District with easy access to several major cities. The timing of our event also makes it a natural choice for performers wanting to test out their material before taking it on to Edinburgh."

The 2006 event will run from July 7-23 in parallel with the opera and literature-based Buxton Festival. Taking part is easier than ever with performers invited to send in their entries by email this year.

In the past the Fringe has sent out a printed information pack but this year the information for entrants has been updated and put up instead on the Fringe's new, improved website, http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk (the website was previously known as .com but has been renamed to reflect the Fringe's charitable status). The information for entrants is now more comprehensive with additions including an expanded, illustrated venues list.

The Fringe is open for entries from January 9th 2006. Performers are asked to read through the entrants' info section, then download and fill in the entry form and email it to or Send message to Entries. This year, for the first time, they can also pay their Fringe fee online.

Many companies choose to sell their Fringe tickets through the Buxton Opera House. For 2006, and at the same cost to performers, the Opera House is offering online ticket sales in addition to walk up and telephone sales.

The Fringe has been able to keep the fee for entrants to just £60 and as in previous years there is a ten per cent discount for entries received by April 1st (i.e. the entry fee would be £54). The closing date for all entries is a strict May 1 after which if performers do enter, they will not be in the printed programme.
