Rooms with a view at Buxton Festival Fringe

Press Release for immediate release May/June 2007

It is easy to pack your day with performances during the exciting 17-day arts extravaganza that is Buxton Festival Fringe (July 6-22), but don't forget to take time out to see some of our stimulating exhibitions.

This year marks the welcome reappearance of some Fringe regulars as well as some fascinating newcomers. The 2006 Derbyshire Open won last year's Fringe Visual Arts award, so don't miss this year's event, an annual highlight at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery featuring work by professional and amateur artists of all ages.

2007 also sees the return of the popular High Peak Artists' and Craft Workers' Association with its stimulating demonstrations and children's workshop, and the Burbage Art Group which is celebrating its tenth anniversary with a bumper exhibition featuring works from members past and present and a free children's quiz.

One-time Fringe chair Alan Bailey is an accomplished artist who won the Derbyshire Open's Watercolour prize last year. A familiar exhibitor on the Fringe, he is back with 60 paintings of the Peak District exhibited at his home studio on Buxton's Green Lane.

Over at the Museum, painter Duncan Pass offers a different take on the scenery of the Peak District with his large-scale oils reflecting the wide skies and open horizons of the area. While you are in the building, check out Carola Colley's unconventional landscapes in an inspiring range of different media from pencil to sculpture.

If exhibitions make you tired and hungry, why not refresh yourself at Buxton's cool café, Project X, where you can also enjoy just one more show - Finding the Thread, a display by two Peak District artists incorporating paintings, textiles and mixed media creations.

We are also very proud of our one and only Film entry. The Pauper's Pit in the Old Hall Hotel continues its valuable cinema screenings with Sunday Shorts, a showcase of new independent films from exciting new directors.

Remember the Fringe is open to all; if you are interested in taking part next year, please Send message to Info or see the information for entrants on the website http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk .
