Cartoon Capers at Buxton Festival Fringe

Press Release for immediate release May/June 2007

Young people are far from forgotten at Buxton Festival Fringe with some familiar TV names gracing this year's event (July 6-22).

Award-winning man and cartoon double-act Big and Little Howard as seen on The Slammer and Beat the Boss (CBBC) as well as Comedy Cuts (ITV) come to the Fringe for the first time with an exciting family show.

Other highlights include The Black Sheep's FairLy Tales, described as 'Whose Line is it Anyway? meets Jackanory', and the anarchic Mudfinger - watch out for mud pies!

Entertainment and education go hand in hand at Bookstore Brierlow Bar's Outer Fringe Environmental Zone - a fortnight of events with attractions for children at weekends - and at Buxton Museum where young people can join artist Penny Gill in making votive plaques, the Roman equivalent of thank you cards to the gods.

Don't just stop at the For Families section of the programme. Children may well enjoy other Fringe offerings such as Black Box Theatre School's Five Go Mad in Buxton, High Peak Artists' &Craft Workers' Association's children's workshop or Burbage Art Group's 10th anniversary exhibition with free children's quiz.

Older children will want to consider events such as the Fringe's two productions of John Godber's Teechers, the Young Rec's Godspell, Siyaya Arts' electrifying African song and dance, 1623's atmospheric production of Macbeth in Poole's Cavern and the Buxton Community School's Imagine Theatre Company with their double bill of Lorca's Blood Wedding and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

There is so much to do at the Fringe. For the fourth year running, we are involved in the Carnival on July 14, so kids, wave those free orange balloons and sport a Fringe T-shirt or wear orange to show your support!

Fringe Sunday at the Pavilion Gardens on July 8 (2-4.30pm) is another must for families with live music, previews of acts, face-painting and, if the sun shines, a lovely al fresco atmosphere. See you there!
