Buxton Festival Fringe - entertainment for everyone!

This year's Fringe (July 6-22) is one of the most varied ever with some 108 entries making it one of the largest too. Over 400 separate performances will represent a wide diversity of the arts from drama to dance, music to magic and visual arts to spoken word. Our newly designed free Fringe programme is available from June and you can also find full listings and updates on our website http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk. Watch out this year for:

  • Top comedy inc. Red Dwarf's Norman Lovett and Radio 4's Steve Day
  • Bumper drama and music programmes including myriad events at managed venues, Nice One (at the Old Clubhouse) and Underground Venues (at the Old Hall Hotel and new for 2007, at Buxton Infant School).
  • African arts with Zimbabwe's a cappella troupe, Nqi Ngqo and Fringe Award-winning song and dance performers, Siyaya Arts
  • Something unexpected: 1623's Macbeth in Poole's Cavern; your pick of the Bard from Shakespeare Jukebox; extraordinary One-Minute Theatre Festival; close-up magic from Manchester Circle of Magicians; new independent films from Sunday Shorts; evolving Poetry Wall at Nice Venues; open-air dance from Domod.
  • Local talent: the return of Three's Company; Buxton Community School's Imagine Theatre Company; award-winning show from Buxton Young Farmers' Club; Godspell from Young Rec; blues singer Gill Sweeting; poet F Philip Holland; 10th anniversary exhibition from Burbage Art Group; prize-winning Buxton artist Alan Bailey; Derbyshire Open; free Fringe Readings and much more.
  • Outreach Fringe: Outer Fringe Environmental Zone at Bookstore, Brierlow Bar; Poetry at the Packhorse Inn, Crowdecote; slides and music at King Sterndale and at St James the Less, New Mills: early music from Aitone; Ibsen Theatre Company; Celloscope's From Bach to the Beatles and classical guitarist James Rippingale
  • Fringe Sunday (July 8th, 2-4.30m, Pavilion Gardens). Free showcase of acts, live music, face painting, fun for all the family.
  • Fringe Club. Hobnob with the performers at The Old Hall Hotel. Come to the Fringe Launch Party on July 5.
  • Carnival (July 14th, from 2pm). Support the Fringe float! Wear orange!
  • Friends of the Fringe. Join our growing band of Friends for reduced admissions, special events, free entry to Fringe Club etc
  • Fringe Beer - For every pint, the Fringe receives 10p. At The Old Clubhouse.
  • A registered charity, the Buxton Festival Fringe runs concurrently with the opera and literature based Buxton Festival but is a separate organisation run by volunteers. Since 2003 it has received generous sponsorship from the University of Derby, Buxton. It is also supported by The Osborne Group and is grateful to many other organisations including High Peak Borough Council, now back on board as sponsors.

    During the Fringe, the Fringe Information Desk is next to the Opera House in the front of the Pavilion Gardens Conservatory. It will be manned from 10am to 4pm between July 6-22 and during these dates there is a dedicated phone line for enquiries - 01298 214184.
