The Naked Truth about Spoken Word at Buxton Fringe

Press Release - 18 June 2010

From a nude poet to New Age musical theatre, Spoken Word comes in many guises and to suit all tastes at this year's Buxton Festival Fringe.

If poetry's your thing, there's poetry inspired by the landscape of the Lake District from Simon Unwin, Sufi dervish poetry from Jennifer Ferraro, and even the State of the Union Undress from The Nude Poet! There's performance poetry in the form of New Age musical theatre from Mark Gwynne Jones & The Psychicbread's latest show What Holy Cow Is This? and an unsettling journey through the Seven Deadly Sins from Sophie Snell. Tongue in Chic, the Midlands' top poetry showcase, comes to Buxton and there's also a chance for you to present your own poetic works in Tell It To Tango - Poetry Slam!

There are talks on the weird and wonderful world of the law from David Allen, whose evening talks delve into Victorian Murders, and in the astonishing, full-size static railway carriage that is Hendrick's Horseless Carriage of Curiosities, fascinating storytelling and intriguing show and tell sessions abound.

Wrap this up with the traditional Fringe Readings in the Old Hall Hotel, and there's spoken word entertainment for everyone.

This year's Buxton Festival Fringe runs from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 25 July and details of all events are available online at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk or in the widely available free printed programme.

The Fringe is hugely grateful to its many supporters including its main sponsor The University of Derby Buxton as well as The Osborne Group, High Peak Borough Council and The Old Hall Hotel.
