Visual Feast at the Fringe

Press Release June 10th 2011

2010 was a landmark year for Visual Arts at the Buxton Fringe, with the Buxton Art Trail linking artists and exhibits across the town. Although the trail is taking a rest this year (it is due back in 2012), there is still a wonderful array of artistic talent on offer.

As always, there's the large-scale events such as Buxton Museum & Art Gallery's Derbyshire Open, and a cornucopia of arts and crafts for sale in The Great Dome Art Fair. On a smaller scale, but no less part of the tapestry of visual arts at the Fringe, the Burbage Art Group continue to go from strength to strength, there's an incredible range of work by High Peak artists at the Pavilion Gardens, and, perhaps most encouraging for this section, the Year 11 Btec Art Group at Buxton Community School present their crafts work in Imagine at the Museum.

Individual artists also are on show, in private houses and shops all over town, including 2D and 3D relief works from ArtsXstra, landscapes and flowers from award-winning Fringe regular Alan Bailey appearing with photographer Judith Kelly, prints and paintings from Dawn Featherstone-Kent, innovative ballpoint creations from Andrea Joseph, colourful contemporary paintings from Sue Mortin, three contemporary artists Playing with Pattern and the acclaimed Adrienne & Langley Brown - both past Visual Arts winners at the Fringe.

Of course there is nothing better than having a go yourself so don't miss the chance to make textile mosaics, as inspired by Kate Aimson.
