Dance, Film & A Bit of the Other at Buxton Fringe

Press Release June 10th 2011

While some categories, such as Theatre, Comedy and Music are bursting at the seams, the Buxton Festival Fringe is just as excited by those entries that take place in the less full categories such as Dance or Film, or indeed those that defy categories and are just known as 'Other Events'.

Buxton Film continue to provide an eclectic programme of films during the Fringe (including Mike Leigh's Another Year and the animated The Illusionist) as well as an evening of the winners of the Open Shorts competition. For those who missed last year's acclaimed drama The Last Laugh, it has been captured on film and will also be shown as part of the Fringe.

The ever-energetic Chapel en le Frith Morris men return for another Day of Dance while a late entrant to the Dance category sees Makoto Inoue from Poland interpreting Shakespeare's Richard III in the style of Neo Japanesque Mime Art.

Prepare to be amazed by an evening of close-up magic at the Palace Hotel, and Fringe veteran Jennie Ainsworth presents her guided walk around Vera Brittain's Buxton. There is also an intriguing walk taking you into the history of well dressing in the town and some advice on how to start up a book club in Books in the Park.

Last, but definitely not least, is the return of the thrilling spectacle that drew massive crowds to last year's Fringe, the Buxton Military Tattoo at the Dome, in aid of ABF The Soldiers' Charity.
