Sing along with Buxton Fringe!

PRESS RELEASE November 12th 2018 - For immediate release

Buxton Fringe is inviting everyone to celebrate the opening of entries to the 2019 Fringe with a festive Fringe40 Village Carols sing-along.

The exciting Christmas Party, hosted by Buxton’s Green Man Gallery, will take place on Saturday December 1 from 7 to 10pm with Derbyshire Village Carols from 7.30pm. Wine and light refreshments will be provided with all donations going to the Fringe.

On the same day, and in the same venue, there will also be a free Derbyshire Village Carols Workshop from 2.30-4.30pm led by Glossop duo pianist Tim Mottershead and singer Rebecca Mottershead for anyone who would like to practise the carols beforehand. Among the carols will be Down in Yon Forest collected by Vaughan Williams in Castleton and While Shepherds Watched (using the Methodist hymn tune Cranbrook - though most identify the tune with a certain Ilkley anthem).

Both events are free and everyone is welcome. Those unable to attend the afternoon session can still join the party and singing is optional! Keith Savage, Chair of the Buxton Festival Fringe says: “We all owe a great debt to Dr Ian Russell who published over 80 Derbyshire carols and whose work is crucial in the survival of this repertoire. As local folk singer Bella Hardy said of Dr Russell’s book: ‘This is much more than a musical resource; it is a glimpse into the cultural history of my home, through the songs that bring people together in the dark winter months.’”

The party marks the December 1 opening of entries for next summer’s eagerly anticipated Fringe40 festival marking the 40th Fringe! Party-goers will have a chance to meet members of the Fringe team and learn how to get involved or become a Fringe Friend. Full details on how to enter can be found in the Take Part information on the Fringe website www.buxtonfringe.org.uk. In honour of Fringe40 a specially discounted entry fee of just £40 is available until the end of February!
