PRESS RELEASE for immediate release May 2025
The catch-all And More category offers outdoor festive fun plus some amazing feats at this year’s Buxton Fringe.
First up is the Chelmorton Festival with a long weekend of village events including craft fair, dog show, local history talk, village sports, quizzes and a wildlife walk; there is something for every age range. Then The High Peak Pride Picnic invites audiences to join them for an afternoon of fancy hats, wonderful cakes and fabulous people in celebration of the town’s LGBTQ+ community. Join them for laughter, conversation, new friends, and the Big Gay Bake Off. The outdoor fun continues with The Fuchsia's Bright where the Serpentine Community Garden invites audiences to come along and find out about their exciting plans for the future whilst enjoying craft workshops, face painting, plant sales, raffle, splat the rat, tea and cakes, mocktails, music throughout the afternoon, garden tours and more.
For audiences that enjoy being amazed there are treats in store with not one but two magic shows to enjoy. Caspar Thomas brings amazing feats incorporating coins, newspapers, magnetised playing cards, an unsolvable mystery, repeated translocations, divinations and restorations in The Art of Close-Up Magic (Volume 2). Meanwhile in The Telepath and the Conjuror, The Oberons will captivate audiences with a spellbinding blend of mind-reading, magic, and impossible illusions that will leave people amazed, astounded, and questioning the boundaries of reality.
For those unsure what to choose to see at the Fringe, Pick 'N' Mix from Underground could be the answer, with short and sweet excerpts from a quality assortment of specially selected shows plus special behind-the-scenes interviews. There's “allsorts” to sample in this jolly mixture of theatre, comedy, music, Fringe offers, prizes, and free sweets.
Fringe Marketing Officer Stephanie Billen says “It’s no accident that all the events in the And More category have been given the family-friendly smiley face symbol by our entrants. There’s certainly lots to tempt families at this year's Fringe from sleight of hand, via outdoor festivals to free sweets! Families should also check out our listings for Children’s Events. There are also plenty of other Fringe shows with smiley-faces!”
The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
