PRESS RELEASE for immediate release June 2025
Dance and Film are small but vibrant categories of entertainment at this year’s Buxton Fringe (July 9-27).
Chapel-en-le-Frith Morris is celebrating its 50th anniversary with not one but two whole days of dance including up to 30 different Morris sides from all over the country. In the Palace Hotel’s Chatsworth Room, Retro Mike is meanwhile taking us back to the Seventies, Sixties and rock ‘n’ roll Fifties for his open-to-all boogie fest, Vinyl Disco Extravaganza.
Music also features heavily within the Film offerings with a chance to see Burbage Band - Heart of Brass, a documentary about this acclaimed local band from award-winning producer/director Ben Whalley. Last year’s Fringe Film Award winner, Brief Encounter Duo, is back screening Hitchcock’s silent film Blackmail with an exciting live music accompaniment.
Finally Buxton Film’s Buxton Shorts 2025 offers something for everyone as the audience gets to vote for its favourite mini film from a diverse selection screened at the Pavilion Gardens Arts Centre. These film-makers have a connection to Buxton and the Peak District and their shorts look set to move, amuse and intrigue by turns.
Fringe Marketing Officer Stephanie Billen says: “Music, Theatre and Comedy are our biggest categories this year but the Fringe programme needs to be appreciated in its entirety as there are also so many exciting shows in the smaller sections.”
The Fringe wishes to thank High Peak Borough Council, its Fringe Friends and the town’s many Fringe supporters and venues.
